Rice Genome Announcement Today, Opening Ways to Develop New Plant Variety

International researchers will announce draft sequence of rice genome mapping on 5th for the first time.

Recent magazine `Science` delivered that the decryption of DNA with regards to two most common rice species, Oriza Sativa Japonica and Sativa Indica, would give hope in battle against famine, which makes millions of people starve.

Researchers are expecting that, through concrete genome draft of these two plants, they can develop Super hybrid plants nourished in vitamins.

Donald Kennedy, editor-in-chief of this magazine, evaluated that, as DNA code of rice, which half of mankind uses for food, is found out, it would increase production according to world demand and advance agricultural development.

430 million base DNA was decrypted among rice genome; however, its complication surpassed human genome, breaking scientists` expectations.

Japonica rice contains 42,000~ 63,000 genes and Indica rice contains 45,000~56,000 genes on the contrary, human DNA is reported as 30,000~40,000 genes.
