College Vacancy Marks 3 Times Higher Than Last Year… Supplementary Registration at 37 Places for 5,070 Students

As mass vacancy occurred for the 2002 college enrollment, supplementary registration has been scheduled 3 times more than last year. According to the `Supplementary Registration Schedule For 2002 Academic Year` that was set by the Ministry of Education & Human Resources on the 17th, 37 colleges are to attract a total of 5,070 students for additional registration, 4,797 within the quota, and 273 outside the quota. Last year, 18 colleges accepted 1,871 additional students.

The Ministry of Education & Human Resources is expecting the actual registration number to be greater than the report, because some colleges specified the registration number only as `undecided` or `undetermined` and many did not even report supplementary registration scheme itself.

The reason for the increased number is that each college is experiencing large under-enrollment as the number of examinees decreased and many students are moving to high-ranking universities.

Seoul National University is carrying out supplementary registration at the College of Nursing and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Many colleges located in Seoul and the metropolitan area, which did not seek supplementary registration last year, participated, including Konkuk Univ. (20 students), Ajou Univ. (240 students), Hongik Univ. (Colleges of Science and Humanities, undetermined number), Seoul National Univ. of Technology (undetermined), and Sejong Univ. (32 overseas students).

In cases of regional private colleges, Seonam Univ. (850 students), Hanlyo Univ. (502 students), Kwangju Women’s Univ. (470 students), Hanil Univ. (436 students), Daebul Univ. (375 students), Chodang Univ. (360 students), and Tamna Univ. (100 students) are scheduling additional supplementary registrations.

Regional public universities like Chonnam Univ. (165 students), and Korea Maritime Univ. (130 students), and Kumoh Univ. of Technology (48 students) are also participating this year for the first time.
