Pop star Shin Jung-Hyoun to open music school

Pop music legend Shin Jung-Hyoun, 58, known as the godfather of Korean rock, will open a music school in Tanyang, North Chungchong Province around May in hopes of grooming young musicians.

Shin recently signed a land lease contract where facilities for the school, called "Shin Jung-Hyoun Music World, will be built¡¯¡¯ he said Thursday.

Shin plans to move the facilities that make up "Woodrock" in Munjong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, home to his studio and Internet broadcasting station (Shin Jung-Hyun Mousic World: www.sjhmvd.com) to the envisioned school site.

He plans to cultivate pop musicians and hold live performances once or twice a month at the site.

Highlighting the plans is a music museum and annual "World Rock Festival¡¯¡¯ in which top rock singers from about 40 countries are expected to participate.

Shin, a hugely popular singer-songwriter, was a pioneer of Korean rock music best known for such hits as "The Beauty¡¯¡¯ and "Beautiful Land.¡¯¡¯

He has largely devoted himself to live performances and songwriting rather than TV appearances for the past decade.
