Dong-a files libel suit against Hankyoreh

The Dong-a Ilbo last month filed a 300-million won libel suit against the Hankyoreh newspaper, claiming that Hankyoreh 21, a weekly current affairs magazine, failed to confirm the facts in a report on the Dong-a Ilbo that appeared last November. The suit was filed on Dec. 30 at the Seoul District Court.

The Dong-a Ilbo claimed in its petition, "Hankyoreh 21 reported that the Dong-a carried articles blasting the government after it rejected Dong-a's application to purchase the Chungjongro company building, which is not true."

The Dong-a Ilbo had turned to the Press Arbitration Commission in its efforts to persuade Hankyoreh 21 to run a correction notice but the negotiations broke down.
