Former ruling party chairman Suh Young-Hoon was appointed as the new chairman of the Korea National Red Cross (KNRC) on Thursday at a central committee meeting. He received all 22 votes.

Suh said he would call on his 30-plus years of experience in volunteer service with the Red Cross to keep the organization politically neutral. He plans to resign his National Assembly seat within a few days.
