Korea's sovereign rating ranked third among 93 nations considered emerging markets after Singapore and Taiwan.
According to a report on 2001 investment risks for 93 emerging markets by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a subsidiary of the Economist, which publishes a weekly current affairs magazine in London, assuming the maximum risk to be 100, Singapore ranked first with 12 points, Taiwan second with 24 points and Korea third with 26 points.
Among Asian nations that faced the 1997 financial crisis with Korea, Malaysia ranked fifth with 28 points, Hong Kong sixth with 29 points, and Thailand tenth with 36 points. The nations with the highest investment risk were Myanmar with 85 points and Indonesia with 60 points.
