Cho Ho-Sung wins World Cup cycling

Korea`s trademark cyclist Cho Ho-sung won the 30-kilometer point race in the World Cup Cycling Championships held in Turin, Italy, Sunday.

The victory of Cho in the world contest raised high the possibility that a Korean cyclist to win a medal in the Olympics for the first time.

Cho, 26, of Korea Telecom, scored 27 points in the 4th World Cup point race to win the championship, outpacing his Russian and Colombian rivals.

The World Cup race was a sort of a skirmish with the Sydney Olympics two months as all the global favorites such as the 1999 World Champion Marit Gello of Italy who will participate in the summer Olympic games.

Cho was co-champion in the World Cup tournament last year.

Cho started his career as a cyclist in 1987 when he was a first grader of Puchon Puk Middle School and was the gold medalist in the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games.

He is also the first Korean cyclist who won a gold medal in the World Championship.
