“I don’t think this will be the last meeting by any chance,” said U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday about the second U.S.-North Korea summit to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The remarks suggest that the U.S. president is open to the possibilities of a third summit and a prolonged process for Washington and Pyongyang’s current negotiation.

Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House that he will achieve a lot of things with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and continue to do so in the future. The U.S. president also added that North Korea is “not reluctant” to take steps for denuclearization, and that it “wants to do something.”

“The sanctions are on in full,” he said, adding that while he wishes to lift sanctions, “but in order to do that, we have to do something that’s meaningful on the other side.” This is the first time that Trump has directly mentioned sanctions on North Korea, with an open request to take actions since August last year. Mr. Trump repeatedly mentioned the prospect of the North Korean economy, saying that the country has a tremendous long-term economic potential, and that Kim knows about this better than anyone else. He pointed out the North’s geopolitical advantage for it is surrounded by major powers such as South Korea, Russia, and China.
