LG Group appoints Koo Kwang-mo as new chairman

Koo Kwang-mo’s era has arrived in LG Group. LG Corp. held a shareholder’s meeting Friday and named Koo, head of Information Display division of LG Electronics (senior executive·photo), a new board member and later the chairman. LG Corp. is a holding company of LG Group that has LG affiliates such as LG Electronics, LG Chem, LG Display and LG Telecom. Koo will be running LG Corp. as chairman together with vice chairman/COO Ha Hyun-hwoi.

Koo was adopted by LG Group’s late Chairman Koo Bon-moo who died on May 20, and became the chairman of LG Group a month after his father’s death. Koo has been appointed for business management of the owner family and long-term growth of the group.

“I will succeed to and develop our key corporate philosophies of creating value for customers, respecting human dignity and transparent management,” Koo said in the meeting. “I will do my best to build a foundation for long-term growth by improving areas that need a change.”
