After a dozen movie and TV robot fantasies, battle of giant robots are about to come to fruition. U.S. robot maker MegaBots issued the challenge via a YouTube video of its own on June 30 to Japanese robot-maker Suidobashi Heavy Industry. MegaBots co-founder Matt Oehrlein, draped in red, white and blue flags of the U.S, said in the clip, "We have a giant robot, you have a giant robot... you know what needs to happen. We challenge you to a duel."
The challenger is MegaBots` "Mark II," a 12,000-pound, five meter-tall behemoth piloted by a team of two people, which has caterpillars on their feet and paint balls on both hands. Suidobashi`s "Kuratas" weighs in at 9,000 pounds and is 13 four meters tall. Operated by one person, the Japanese robot is better in speed and preciseness.
Five days after on Sunday, Suidobashi released a video on YouTube Sunday formally accepting a duel from MegaBots. Suidobashi founder and CEO Kogoro Kurata appeared on the clip. Draped in Japanese national flag, Kurata said, "I`ll give them that But my reaction? Come on guys, make it cooler. Just building something huge and sticking guns on it," adding "Giant robots are part of Japan`s heritage."
