Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na has maintained her world No. 1 ranking in womens singles without competing in the Grand Prix series and final.
After the Grand Prix final in Beijing ended Saturday, the International Skating Union announced on its Internet homepage its global rankings, keeping Kim on top with 4,024 points.
The union reflects 70 percent of the 2008-09 season`s scores and 100 percent of those of the 2009-10 and the 2010-11 seasons to determine the rankings. Though Kim snubbed the Grand Prix series this season, no competitor overtook her in the rankings.
Second place went to Japans Akiko Suzuki (3,845 points) and third to Italys Carolina Kostner (3,648). Mao Asada of Japan, who failed to advance to the Grand Prix final amid a slump, fell one notch to sixth (3,275).
