The Dong-A Ilbo 2010 Gyeongju International Marathon was held Sunday in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Some 100 elite runners and 10,000 master marathoners ran through the historic city in clear fall weather. The race, the first in Korea to introduce the masters’ sector in 1994, was upgraded to an international competition in 2007. This year, the competition was promoted to a Silver Race by the International Association of Athletics Federations to become one of the world’s top 30 marathons. In the elite sector, Ethiopian runner Dejene Yirdaw finished first with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 13 seconds.
