Posthumous Honor

Public Administration and Security Minister Maeng Hyung-kyu Tuesday looks at the photo of the late Hwang Jang-yop, the highest-ranking North Korean official to defect to South Korea, at a funeral center in Asan Medical Center in Seoul’s Songpa district. The government conferred a posthumous medal of honor on Hwang, making him eligible for burial at the National Cemetery in Daejeon.
