Labor Unrest in Greece

Posted February. 12, 2010 08:24,

Some 7,000 Greek government employees and their supporters take to the streets Wednesday to protest spending cuts in Athens. The main government workers` union with 600,000 members went on a 24-hour strike earlier to protest the plan to freeze basic wages and raise taxes. A two-million-strong federation of unions will also start a general strike Feb. 24. The confrontation between the Greek government and labor is expected to intensify, as Athens plans massive spending cuts to overcome its fiscal crisis.
