Pitcher Kim Byung-hyun (29) and the Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms on a major league contract.
According to the website of the baseball team and local newspapers, the Pittsburgh Pirates will clear a space on the full 40-man roster for Kim. (Players on the 40-man roster, a kind of the list of first-string players, are guaranteed to play in the major league.) He will play a role as a relief pitcher. The two sides agreed on a one-year $800,000 (approximately 760 million won) contract. He can get as much as $2 million depending on his performance. It is lower than $2.5 million, his guaranteed salary last year.
Kim worked with the Colorado Rockies, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Florida Marlins last year, going 10-8 with a 6.08 ERA. In 394 Major League Baseball appearances, he recorded 54-60 with 86 saves and a 4.42 ERA.
