It has been revealed that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) has inquired of the criminal records of Grand National Party’s (GNP) presidential candidate Lee Myung-bak. The NIS had already perused the real estate materials of the former Seoul mayor`s relatives.

National Police Agency chief Lee Taek-sun met six GNP lawmakers who visited the agency and said “The NIS requested some material related to the former mayor`s criminal records, but we can not reveal the specific contents.”

Lee said, "You can find the fact that the NIS inquired of the former mayor`s criminal records in the police communications network.” He added, "We know how many cases there were and we hold the related materials, but we can not reveal the number of cases because they are under investigation.”

He continued to say that the NIS had sent documents related to its recent inquiry of the criminal records to the prosecution authorities.

Lee gave an affirmative response when asked if the NIS had inquired of the criminal records of ruling camp`s presidential contenders, saying that all the records can be revealed to the public when the current investigation is concluded.
