LG Electronics’ Super Multi Blue (SMB) player, the next generation DVD player, pulled the top honor in the annual Best Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Award this year. CES is the largest international consumer electronics and information technology exhibition.

The company announced on January 11 that its SMB player was chosen as “Best in Show” by CNET (www.cnet.com), the largest online news channel in America.

Every year, CNET selects the ‘Best of CES’ among products introduced in 10 different categories and awards the ‘Best in Show’ to a product that is the most highly evaluated.

The SMB player surprised other companies in the exhibition because of its capability of playing both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs. SMB is the world’s first dual-format player.

Lee Hee-gook, chief technical officer of LG Electronics, said, “The good reputation of SMB led to the best award. LG will lead the market for next generation video with the production of SMB starting this month.”

‘CES 2007’ being held in Las Vegas, Nevada will last through January 11 (local time).
