Two elementary school girls, Jeong (13, sixth grade), Gwak (9, second grade), who were on a rotating ride, “Swing Drop,” in Kumdori Land, Doryong-dong, Daejeon, at around 1:50 p.m. yesterday, fell to the ground 30 meters below.

They were carried to the nearby hospital but remain in serious condition.

The two girls were seriously injured in head, arms and legs and taken to the hospital by the 119 emergency agency.

Witnesses said, “One girl on a ride knocked her head against a ride roof and fell down following the other, who suddenly crashed to the ground while the ride was rotating.”

“Swing Drop” is a ride with a capacity of eight people that rotates 360 degrees at up to 40 meters. It is the latest version, complete with sudden rise and sudden drop, rotation features and a child under the height of 137 meters is barred from riding it.

The police are investigating whether Kumdori Land and victims followed safety rules and whether there was a technical defect with a ride.
