Korean LPGA Rookie Loses Grip on Lead

LPGA rookie Lee Jee-young (Hi Mart) faded in the last minute again.

Lee was near second place only two shots behind in the third round of the Wendy’s Championship.

On August 27, although Lee saved four shots during the third round at Tartan Fields GC (par 72), in Dublin, Ohio, she had to yield to Lorena Ochoa (17-under par, 199), “the champion of Mexico,” by two strokes.

Despite her outstanding six birdies, Lee made a double bogey mistake on the third hole (par-4).

Lee, the 2005 CJ Nine Bridges Classic winner, has lost her last two events due to a lack of experience even though she moved into lead in the first round. This time she had to vie with Ochoa and Miyazato Ai (13 under pars, 203 hits, Japan) for her first U.S. championship title in the leading group match.

Kang Su-yeon (Samsung Electronics) was co-ranked in 18th place with a loss of three strokes despite a neck injury. Kim Young (HiMart) and Kim Ju-yeon (KTF) will compete for top-10 honors since they are co-ranked in 13th place (9 under par, 207). Song A-ri (Hi Mart), Jang Jung (Kiup Bank) and Kim Ju-mi (Hite Brewery) are ranked in 18th place.
