Cabinet Confirmation Hearings Set

Posted March. 20, 2006 03:34,

National Assembly standing committees will hold confirmation hearings for the four ministerial appointees named in the March 2 cabinet shakeup starting tomorrow.

The ruling and opposition parties will convene confirmation hearings on Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs appointee Lee Yong-seop on March 21, Minister of Information and Communications appointee Roh Jun-hyung on March 22, and on Minister of Culture and Tourism appointee Kim Myung-gon and Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries appointee Kim Seong-jin on March 23.

In the case of Minister of Culture and Tourism appointee Kim Myung-gon, the Grand National Party plans to take issue with what they think is President Roh Moo-hyun’s tendency to appoint those who see eye to eye with him, pointing out that Kim is a close associate of Roh’s. Regarding the other three appointees, the GNP plans to focus on finding out whether they are up to the jobs they want, and what their policy directions are.

Meanwhile, the ruling and opposition parties agreed in principle to hold an extraordinary session of the National Assembly starting April 3.

On March 19, Cho Il-hyun, the deputy floor leader of the ruling Uri Party, said, “An Kyung-yul, my counterpart in the Grand National Party, and I agreed to hold the extraordinary session on the third of next month.”
