The Central Investigation Unit of the Supreme Prosecutors Office (SPO) is deliberating whether to probe the recent scandal surrounding the stem cells created by Professor Hwang Woo-suk of Seoul National University.
Park Young-soo of the SPO said on December 30 that the prosecution is not ruling out an investigation, and that it is factoring the public interest into its decision. He went on to say that based on the outcome of the SNU panels investigation, it will decide who should take the lead in further investigating the case.
The professors team moved its laboratory from a pig farm at Obong-ri, Guhang-myeon, Hongseong-gun, South Chungcheong Province, where the team had carried out cloning experiment on gnotobiotic pigs since 2002.
