About 500 Hansen’s Disease sufferers living in Jeonnam’s Sorok Island and 89 settlements nationwide protested a Japanese court’s decision and demanded compensation from the Japanese government on October 27 at a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Many held up picket cards proclaiming the decision to be discriminatory.

On Tuesday, a Japanese regional court in Tokyo ruled against a lawsuit filed by Korean Hansen sufferers while upholding an identical suit filed by Taiwanese patients.
