Military Conducts On-the-Spot Investigation of Shooting Spree

In relation to the shooting rampage that took place at an Army guard post (GP) inside the four-kilometer-wide Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, the GP shooting accident investigation headquarters launched an on-the-spot investigation on June 22 along with the people concerned, including victims’ families, the National Human Rights Commission, and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation.

The headquarters said that along with soldiers on duty that day, a team consisting of eight representatives of victims’ families, four members from the National Human Rights Commission, four from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation, and 10 investigators carried out an on-the-spot investigation and operation to reorganize the situation.

The headquarters also announced that 22-year-old private Kim Dong-min is under custody for charges of manslaughter and damaging military property.

Meanwhile, the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly held a general meeting and decided to organize a fact-finding subcommittee on the shooting spree.
