On June 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) said that six gunmen seized around 70 children aged four to six, including five Korean children, at Siem Reap international school in northwestern Cambodia, but that the children were all released in five hours.

The Korean students were all confirmed to be safe but, one Canadian student was killed under detention. According to the MOFAT, 20 out of the 90 students in the school are Korean.

Among the hostage-takers, four have been arrested by the local police at around 3:00 p.m., and two others were shot to death.
