U.S. Detains 11 North Korean Defectors in San Diego

According to the Association of Residents from Five North Korean Provinces in Los Angeles on November 19, 11 North Korean defectors who had tried to smuggle into the U.S. were detained in a U.S. immigration jail just 20 km away from the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego, California.

Kim Ho-jeong, chairperson of the community in Los Angeles, said that currently nine male and two female North Korean defectors have been detained in the immigration office and three of them were arrested last week. Kim also stated that among them there is a Mr. Goh (53 years old), who identified himself as a former lieutenant colonel of the political bureau of North Korean armies and added that his wife and four children are living in South Korea.
