The Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), the body investigating the murder of Kim Sun-il of Gana General Trading Co. Ltd, revealed that its Iraq local investigation team has arrived in Baghdad in the morning of July 3 and started to investigate the Korean embassy.
The investigation team, led by Moon Tae-gon, is focusing on when the Korean embassy first acknowledged the kidnapping of Kim Sun-il, why it didnt know the fact earlier, how it reacted after acknowledgement, and how it tried to protect the local Korean people.
The investigation team will also examine local related people including the Iraqi driver who had been kidnapped with Kim Sun-il.
A high-ranking official from BAI said, As the team took a risk in going to Baghdad, we expect it will make a rapid process in its investigation. It is examining the genuineness of the first statements made by Gana General Trading Company president Kim Chun-ho as well.
BAI will call Kim for an additional investigation and continue to inquire into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Associated Press.
