The National Assembly’s investigation into last week’s kidnapping and murder by Iraqi insurgents of Kim Sun-il, employee of Gana General Trading Co., is to begin Wednesday.

Open Uri Party assemblyman Lee Jong-gurl and the Grand National Party’s deputy floor leader, Nam Kyung-pil, held a meeting at the assembly yesterday and agreed to submit the request for an investigation at Wednesday’s general meeting of the assembly, where the plan of investigation will also be discussed.

The investigating committee, called the Special Committee for Inquiring into the Truth of the Murder of a Korean Committed by Iraqi Terrorists, will be made up of 10 assembly members from Open Uri, eight from Grand National, and one each from the Democratic Labor and Millennium Democratic parties. Although the length of the investigation was settled at one month, it can be prolonged if necessary.

“The bureau chiefs of the diplomatic and intelligence agencies such as the National Security Council, Ministry of National Defense, National Intelligence Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will be included in the investigation,” said Deputy Floor Leader Lee in his briefing. “However, considering that witness summoning usually takes a week, the investigation of the national administration at which the witnesses appear will begin in earnest by July 7 to 8.”

The parties also decided to organize the Corps for Investigating Truth in Iraq, through which two assembly members from Open Uri and Grand National Party, under the jurisdiction of the special committee, attempt to carry out the practical activities of the investigation by dispatching people to Iraq as soon as possible.
