A Weekend of Nationwide Freezing Weather

It is expected that the coldest weather of this year’s winter will be blustered nationwide on 4th and 5th of this coming weekend.

The Meteorological Office reported, “Due to the effect of the continental high atmospheric pressure, temperature will drop enormously with strong wind starting with the night of 3rd.” and “Especially, on the 5th, the lowest morning temperature of Seoul will fall to 12 degrees below zero and the highest afternoon temperature will be only at around 5 degrees thus will be a very bitter cold day of this winter.”

On the 4th, the lowest morning temperature of Seoul will be 9 degrees below zero, Chuncheon will be 13 degrees below zero, Suwon will be 10 degrees below zero and other like places will be below the sub-zero temperature, except the regions in Jeju Province.

Meanwhile, on the 3rd, Seoul and Gyeonggi regions that have been given a heavy snowfall warning experienced darkness during the afternoon for about 30 minutes due to the blustering of an extreme snowstorm.

The Meteorological Office personnel explained, “A strange happening of in which a day momentarily changed as if it was a night, occurred when strong snow cloud temporarily blocked the sunshine with blustering snow storm caused by uneasiness of atmosphere.”

The Meteorological Office forecasted that the regions of Seoul and Gyeonggi will have 3~8cm of snowfall, Chungnam, Honam and like places will have 15 cm, Gangwon and Jeju mountain regions will have 10~30 cm of snowfalls by the 4th.
