Generational Shift in China

Chinese President Jiang Zemin is returning to his seat after delivering an opening speech during the 16th Chinese Communist Party Congress at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing November 8. On the front, Jiang’s heir apparent Vice President Hu Jintao (left) and Prime Minister Zhu Rongji. Jiang is expected to hand over his power to vice president Hu at the congress.
