LG Phillips Developed 42 inch TFT-LCD

LG Phillips LCD succeeded in developing 42inch TFT-LCD of the world largest size.

LG Phillips LCD said on October 6, “We developed the 40 inch TFT-LCD for a digital TV for the first time in the industry and will show it in Korea Electronics Show (KES) to be held in COEX, Samsung-dong Gangnam-gu Seoul from October 8.

The 42inch TFT-LCD(picture) is the product of the wide XGA high resolution (980,000pixel, 1280×768) and is suitable for the digital HDTV by 15:9 of a screen width and length.

The product copes with a weakness of TFT-LCD, which has a difference in the resolution according to angles and obtains the broad viewing angle of 176 degree. Also, it can have a brighter screen than the existing TFT-LCD and present various 1,6700,000 colors.

LG Phillips LCD said “After we have currently been producing 15 inch, 17.1 inch Wide, 20 inch, 23 inch Wide and 30 inch Wide Products, we succeeded in developing 42 inch product of the world largest size. We can have the various ranged products and so we expect that the competitiveness of the company will increase.”

According to ‘Display Search’ which is the market research institute specialized US display, in LCD market for TV for the second quarter (April to June), SHARP has occupied 48.4% of market share as the first rank, then LG Phillips LCD has occupied 35.5% of market share. TM Display (joint venture of TOSHIBA and Matsushita) and Samsung Electronics has occupied 6.8% respectively.

It is expected that the LCD TV market will grow rapidly at annual average 92% by a level of 1,6100,000 units in 2006 from 1,300,000 units this year.
