The Asian Game Village, which would host about 10,000 athletes and officials from 44 participating countries of the 14th Asian Games in Busan (September 29 ~ October 14), was open to public on the 17th for the first time.
The opened facility includes Asian Game Village operating facilities such as athletes quarters, team leaders quarters, offices of delegations, control offices, registration center, and the office of the Head of the Asian Game Village, and convenience facilities such as dance halls, parks, telephone offices, and swimming pools.
Among those facilities, the quarter for the 184 North Korean athletes (97 males, 87 females) and 134 officials, total of 318 people is the building number 114.
This building is consisted of 34 pyong types and 41 pyong types, and it has 56 rooms, and 5 ~ 7 people will occupy each room.
This building is located right next to the Sunken, which is the central plaza of the village where the NOC Center is located, and other buildings surround it, so it is not visible from the outside.
In relation to the Flag Plaza, in about 100m back of the building number 114, there are 117 and 118, which are the quarters for the Korean delegation, and the quarter for the next host country Qatar, 116, is also at the backside of the North Korean quarter.
The Village manager said, We will not do any special guard or watch for the North Korean delegation, and we will treat them as same as the other countries according to the OCA regulations.
The East Timor, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, which draw public attention due to political, diplomatic, and religious issues, will be placed according to friendly relations after placing large delegations first.
The dining hall at the Village is a long streamlined air dome built with flame resistant polyester and no interior columns, and 3,000 people can eat at one time. It is predicted that during the Games 20t of rice, 22t of beef, 35t of chicken, 80t of vegetables, 120t of fruit, 30t of fish, 700,000 loaves of bread, and 200,000 bottles of milk will be consumed as food. The dining hall will be operated as a buffet for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
