[Editorial] Co-operation of MDP and ULD

Millennium Democratic Party and United Liberal Democrats agreed to co-operate in local elections however, criticism is rising among people.

They decided to help each other such as filing nomination of MDP candidate from Capital area and filing nomination of ULD candidate from Chungcheon province, but it can`t help avoiding criticism as strategy for election despite making any kind of excuse.

Above all else, it is hard to escape criticism that it is regionalism.

Entrusting one region to one party, dividing regions can`t be a sound plan.

It can`t distort people`s mind because for voters, candidates of their supporting party are getting disappeared.

Presidential candidate of MDP, Roh Moo-hyun also stressed overcoming of regionalism at press conference yesterday, “would it be continuance of split era or towards time of unification? ”.

I would like to ask if such co-operation is real overcoming of regionalism.

It is far from political reformation, which Candidate Roh has been insisting as policy, too.

Choice of two parties is due to sense of crisis such as MDP, might get defeated in Capital area and ULD might in Chungcheong province.

Therefore, they want to gain votes on one side.

But how could they repeat the old film like `DJP co-operation`, which was judged as failure, even if their situation is urgent?

MDP and ULD had carried out unification and separation several times.

In 1997 Presidential election, they created DJP joint regime through co-operation, but in 2000, general elections they separated

And now, they decided to co-operate again, it is quite confusing.

It appears to people that whenever they need each other, they look for each other and if not needed, they abandon.

In particular, I can`t understand style of ULD which gives impression of peeping in each other`s parties.

Scene that it is likely to conduct politics like tightrope walk between GNP and MDP is even deplorable.

It causes doubt whether it is effective in co-operation in reality, too.

Otherwise they can loose excuse as well as real profit.

Subjects who can judge wrong politics are voters.
