Prosecution Summoned Shin Seung-Hwan

The Second Special Investigation Division of the Seoul District Public Prosecutors Office (Chief Public Prosecutor Park Yong-Seok) summoned yesterday Shin Seung-Hwan, the younger brother of former Prosecutor General Shin Seung-Nam, to investigate Shin and former Commissioner of the National Tax Service An Jung-Nam`s bribery case of tax cut request.

The prosecution investigated Shin on the situations that he requested a special favor for reducing taxes to former Commissioner An after receiving a solicitation from a private moneylender Choi (42) and that An made telephone calls to working-level officials to order tax reduction.

The prosecution also intensively investigated that whether Shin gave money to An for the price of his solicitation.

The prosecution explained that, because Choi did not respond to the summons, it summoned Shin first.

Choi closed his office and absconded, and his family was not returned home since Jan. 31.

Shin also received 50 million won from an apartment association for the price of his solicitation to the North branch of the Seoul District Public Prosecutors Office regarding to the association`s legal case. The prosecution summoned about 10 people, including officials of the association.
