The yellow staphylococci causing food poison were detected in 34 restaurants that specialized in the seaweed rice roll including the popular chain restaurants such as Jongro Kimbap and Kimganae Kimbap in Seoul.

The Seoul city government revealed yesterday that it executed sanitary inspection on 483 restaurants that specialize in seaweed rice roll from the beginning of September and found yellow staphylococci in 34 restaurants. The city government ordered the suspension of the business to all 34 restaurants. The yellow staphylococci may cause suppuration and otitis media as well as food poison. The symptoms such as vomit, stomachache and diarrhea appear 2-6 hours after eating the food infected by the yellow staphylococci.

Besides, the city imposed a correctional fine on three restaurants that did not carry out the health examination on employees, including Apgujeong Kimbap in Shindang-Dong, Jung-Gu.
