Yonsei University, which was pushing forward the `contribution entrance system` in spite of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources` (MEHR) disapproval, is reviewing a plan to implant the contribution system in the selection of transfer students.
Lee Young-Sun, the head of Yonsei Univ’s planning department, said yesterday, ``We are reviewing a admissions policy in which when a student is selected from another student with same score, a priority will be given to those who contribute to the school in a nonmaterial method.``
The department head Lee said, ``There will be no problem to introduce the contribution system, since the protocol to deal with same scorers in the transfer students selection process is solely on the decision of the university. The school will determine a guideline for selecting transfer students during the second semester after discussing the matter with the working level personnel.``
Thus far, the Yonsei Univ. was selecting students with same scores based on the students’ GPA on major subjects and the transcripts from colleges attended.
Meanwhile, an official of the `school affairs support department` in the MEHR said, ``It is not at the stage yet to talk about the issue because we didn’t hear any official response from the university. But, it seems that they should select the transfer students based on the same standard to select new entering students.``
In the meantime, there were no same scorers in Yonsei Univ.’s general transfer student selection procedure last year. The competition rate was 17.3/1 with 3013 applicants for the quota of 174.
