Shopping mall at Incheon International Airport

``You can do all you need to do -- at Incheon International Airport.``

The airport, which opens on Thursday, offers an assortment of facilities and amenities for all passengers and visitors. Designed to serve more than 20 million people a year with convenience and comfort of the first order, the vast airport houses a sauna bath, bowling alleys and a business center. High rents for the sites make them charge rather heavily for the services and foods available there.

Diverse food court:

Both the east and west wings of the central Millennium Hall of the passenger terminal are lined with 17 restaurants each. Two fast food stores, Lotteria and McDonald`s, are located on the third floor of the east wing. Prices are the same as in downtown Seoul.

Greenteria in the middle of the basement offers semi-buffet style fare. Their prices are: Beef rib soup-- 3,500 won, a bowl of rice-- 1,200 to 2,000 won, kimchi-- 1,200 to 3,000 won and jangjorim (beef boiled in soy sauce)-- 3,000 won. An average meal for four persons costs about 30,000 won.

A 1,402-seat restaurant run by the Chosun Hotel is located on the fourth floor. Consisting of three departments for Korean Chinese and Western foods and a lounge bar, the integrated restaurant commands a full view of the runway. Its menu includes: jajangmyon (Chinese noodles)-- 6,300 won, bibimbap (rice mixed with vegetables)--9,600 won, seollongtang (beef soup with rice)-- 9,600 won, ham and egg sandwich--7,500 won. The prices are almost double those in downtown eateries and 7 to 8 percent higher than at Kimpo Airport.

Sundry stores:

A large shopping mall of 8,200 pyong has a total of 176 shops. Two leading metropolitan department stores, Aekyong and Shinsegae, have been given concessions in the western and eastern sections of the mall, respectively.

These stores sell mementos, travel supplies, apparel and golf outfits, etc.

Fancy goods, film and snack foods and beverages can be bought on the first floor, which contains the arrival deck. Travel items, bags and clothes are sold on the third floor to departing passengers. You can buy stationery, newspapers, magazines and souvenirs on the second and the fourth floors. A 2,400-pyong tax-free store is located on the third floor near the departure lounge. The Seoul branch of the internationally celebrated tax-free store chain, DFS, the Korea National Tourism Corporation, Lotte Hotel and Aekyung Dept. Store set up booths there. Another tax-free shop had been planned on the arrival deck, but it was later cancelled as the Customs Office called its potential profitability into question.

Other facilities:

A small hotel, Air Garden, with 90 rooms will open on the fourth floor of the passenger terminal to accommodate transit passengers. To be managed by the Walker Hill Hotel, the hotel with a total floor space of 1,173 pyong will have two lounges and two game rooms.

It aims to afford a short period of rest for passing travelers, charging for a stay of 6 hours 44,000 won (standard room), 55,000 won (deluxe room) and 77,000 won (suite).

A sauna-health center will open on a space of 360 pyong on the basement of the east wing of the passenger terminal at the end of May. Bowling alleys of 260 pyong have been installed on the basement of the west wing of the terminal. Rates are yet to be fixed.

Located also on the basement is a clinic to help emergency patients in case of airline accidents or fires at the airport and treat other simple ailments of passengers and airport workers. Detailed by Inha University Hospital to the clinic, which includes a dentist`s office, are five doctors, two interns, eight nurses and other support personnel.

The business center is situated on the second floor of the central hall. Two business centers operated by Paradise Incheon and Diner`s Club Korea have seven conference rooms which can seat 5 to 30 people each. Simultaneous interpretation, written translation, hotel and airline reservations, car rentals and high-tech audio-visual aids for conferences and related services are provided. Between 100,000 and 200,000 won is charged for the use of the center for one hour.
