Best Korean short story of 2000 chosen

What was the best Korean short story published last year? The Korea Contemporary Novel Society, made up of graduate school students specializing in contemporary novels, chose "Window of Dallaway¡¯¡¯ by Park Sung-Won.

Park¡¯s work was recommended by 30 graduate school students from Ewha Woman`s, Soongsil and Ajou universities and 30 professors in Korean literature from across the nation who reviewed the total output of 12 quarterlies and three monthlies last year.

Some of the works published in various books of short stories were excluded from the list of stories for the final screening.

"Window of Dallaway,¡¯¡¯ carried in the quarterly "Literary Village¡¯¡¯ last year, won 47 votes and was chosen as the "best short story.¡¯¡¯

The story, which takes a photographer as its main character, focuses on the relation between the truth and the virtual image.

The judges commented that the story was well-structured, had a clear theme and showed a mastery of narrative technique.
