President Kim Dae-Jung has made the establishment of cooperative politics the top priority for next year¡¯s government, saying pro-active efforts will be made from the start of the new year.

President Kim¡¯s drive for reconciliation was initiated in acknowledgement of the fact reforms and government activities for the remaining 2 years of Kim's term will be stalled if a cooperative atmosphere is not promoted in the political, economic and social sectors.

In this regard, President Kim will hold a summit meeting with Grand National Parthy chairman Lee Hoi-Chang on Jan. 4 to discuss cooperation and pending issues.

Park Joon-Young, presidential public relations senior secretary, said chairman Lee and his wife would be invited to a dinner meeting at Cheong Wa Dae on Jan. 4. During the meeting, talks will be held on economic issues, cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties for political advancement and other issues related to national activities.

GNP spokesman Kwon Chul-Hyeon said discussions would focus on national cooperation and efforts to rebuild the faltering economy. In particular, the opposition party will be asked to cooperate in the government's efforts to foster economic recovery.
