Netizens select Seo as year`s top singer: donga.com survey

Seo Taiji was chosen as the best singer of 2000 by Korean netizens. In a survey conducted by donga.com, Seo earned 6,433 votes or 36 percent of the total in the category of best singer and 7,257 votes or 40.6 percent of the votes in the best male singer category.

A total of 17,873 netizens took part in the vote, in which Seo was recognized for selling 1.3 million copies of his "Ultramania" album.

Cho Sung-Mo finished second in the male singer category with 2,525 votes or 14.1 percent of the total and Yoo Seung-Joon finished third with 1,247 votes or 7 percent.

Among female singers, Lee Jeong-Hyun garnered 2,901 votes or 16.6 percent of the total to take first place ahead of Park Ji-Yoon, who earned 2,430 votes or 13.1 percent of all those cast.

In the category of rock groups, 1Time won the largest number of votes with 4,323 or 24.2 percent of the total. The group, which scored a smash hit with its hip hop song, "Koejina chingching nane," took top honors in a fierce contest with H.O.T, which won 4,216 votes or 23.6 percent of the total, and g.o.d., which finished with 3,427 votes or 19.2 percent.
