The government Saturday welcomed a joint statement by North Korea and the United States opposing any forms of terrorism, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said.

In a press release, the spokesman said the government welcomes the fact that North Korea and the U.S. made substantial progress in the issue of excluding North Korea from Washington's list of terrorism-sponsoring nations.

He said the government expects that North Korea will meet all of the legal requirements for removal from the list of terrorist sponsors in the near future.

¡°We see the adoption of the joint statement as important progress in North Korea-U.S. relations and expect that this will become an occasion for North Korea to take part in the international community as a more responsible member in the near future," the spokesman also said.
