Cyber terrorism such as hacking and viral attacks are on the rise ever year.
According to audit materials submitted by the Ministry of Information and Communication to Rep Kim Hyung-oh of Grand National Party, belonging to the Parliamentary Committee of Science Technology, Information and Telecom on September 15(Thursday), 721 cases of illegal hacking to domestic Internet sites have been reported for the first half(Jan ~ Jun.), far surpassing 572 cases reported last year.
Victim institutions include civil companies (366 cases) and universities (158 cases). The route of hacking this year varies; domestic to domestic in 197 cases, overseas to domestic in 79 cases, overseas to domestic to overseas in 132 cases and unidentified in 313 cases.
Apart from this, illegal hacking by domestic hackers on foreign Internet sites also surged to 49 cases during the first half of this year, almost doubling from 24 cases of last year.
