Kim Il-Sung character productions

"Please refrain from producing the so-called Kim Il-Sung character."

The South`s government has given an advisory concerning the flood of Kim Jung-Il character goods hitting the market with skyrocketing popularity. This is in wake of the inter-Korean Summit. The Unification Ministry stressed in the handout titled, "Responses to Questions on Inter-Korean Joint Declaration and Others," that, "When a picture or a character either of President Kim or the North`s leader Kim Jung-Il is used, there needs to be a formal observance of certain guidelines concerning the portraiture."

One source revealed, "Too much unrestricted use of Kim Jung-Il`s pictures or characters could lead to friction with the North and it would be detrimental to the inter-Korean relationship." He added, "The North`s leadership could take such rampant characterization as a defamation of his power and

authority."
