Ryu Hyun-jin vs. Choo Shin-soo finally happening in June next year

The tickets for the LA Dodgers home game on July 28 last year were sold out early. The rival team was the Cincinnati Reds. Normally tickets for games with the Reds are easy to obtain but not this time, since Dodgers` starting pitcher was Ryu Hyun-jin and Reds` top hitter Choo Shin-soo was also playing. More than 15,000 Korean spectators came to the Dodger Stadium to see the two players` rival match. Choo had no hits at three at-bats and one strikeout, losing to Ryu by decision. There has been no game between the two since then. Choo who had earned a free agent status moved to American League team Texas Rangers, which narrowed the chance further. Dodgers is a National League team, which means it can meet the Rangers in just post season or in inter-league. This doesn`t mean that the all teams of both leagues can compete in inter-league. The latest competition between Dodgers and Rangers was in 2009.

There is high possibility that the two players can meet next year. According to the 2015 season schedule announced Tuesday by Major League, Dodgers and Rangers will meet four times next year. The competition will be on June 16-17 in Texas and in 18-19 in LA. Unless something extraordinary happens, Ryu who is a key pitcher for Dodgers will be starting pitcher in one of these four games. Choo, if he recovers from elbow injury after surgery, will also play.

During the Sunday game, Ryu allowed two runs during the 6 2/3 innings and a tie run in the seventh inning, failing to achieve his 15th win in season. He will be starting pitcher in the visiting game with the San Francisco Giants that starts at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.
