Lunch menu Chinese President Xi Jinping ate recently while taking inspection tour to a provincial region has become a hot topic of conversation in China.

According to China News.Com on Monday, Xi had local style lunch while visiting Xioauiru senior officials’ academy, a training center for Communist Party leaders in Lankao County in Henan Province, on Friday. What he was served at the time was a serving of ‘Lankao large knife noodle,’ dumplings, rice, four side dishes and a soup.

Lankao large knife noodle is a flagship noodle recipe of the region, and offers sour and spicy taste. As the noodle is made with flour paste cut with a large knife measuring 70 centimeters long, it is called large knife noodle. The noodle is prepared with egg, ginger, garlic, green onion and sesame oil in the summer to offer cool taste, and made with minced chicken meat and eggs in the winter to provide deep, strong flavor.

After the meal, Xi expressed satisfaction, saying “Large knife noodle tastes great. I like it.” The chefs who cooked the recipe said, “I had no chance to see President Xi in person, but I was excited to hear from restaurant staff that he enjoyed the noodle.”

Foods that Xi has eaten have become hot topics of conversation. The Chinese president stopped by a small dumpling chain store in Beijing in December last year, and ordered in person meat dumplings, stir-fried liver recipe, and stir-fried vegetables worth 21 yuan (about 3 U.S. dollars and 30 cents). The menu earned fame as “Xi Jinping set meal” eventually. Xi also served “Biang Biang noodle,” a hot recipe from his hometown, to Lian Chan, honorary chairman of the ruling Kuomintang of Taiwan when the latter visited China in February this year, which made headlines.
