New pain emerged on July 27, 1953 when the pain of a war came to a halt.
The Korean Peninsula remains that only divided country in the world. Scars of the separated Korean people haven`t been healed, but instead they have deepened wounds.
Over the past 60 years, South and North Korea have been commemorating the day for different reasons. The North commemorated July 27 as the day of its war victory again this year. Only the Stalinist country knows what it won over. In the South, more people tend to forget the pain of the war, which has not been seamlessly cured. Perhaps for this reason, public surveys might be still conducted even today to clarify whether the Korean War broke out due to invasion by the North or the South.
A peace forum took place at Camp Greaves, the northernmost U.S. military base in South Korea, which is located just 2 kilometers from the demilitarized zone, on Sunday. It was a feast where participants sang peace and reunification by remembering the war and national division. The sound of laughers and chanting by Young Peace Leaders comprising 100 college students spread to the North. On the same day, similar aged men and women in the North staged a military inspection parade, pumping high up their legs with serious facial look.
On the 60th anniversary of the armistice, the North again commemorated the war, while the South started singing a song yearning for a reunified Korea. The day should come without fail when both Koreas will heal together the scars of the Korean people. This is the reason the sound of rock band spreading from the South to the North and South Korean youths voices should get louder further.
