The U.S. presidential election starts midnight Tuesday in Dixville Notch, a northern village in New Hampshire.

For voters who want economic recovery and job creation in the midst of the global economic slump, they will either choose to give another four years to President Barack Obama or side with Republican candidate Mitt Romney, who is urging “a strong America” and reconstruction of the market economy. The winner will lead to different solutions to the economic crisis and conflicts across the world.

The election result will begin to shape through exit polls conducted by key media outlets from around 9 p.m. Tuesday Eastern Standard Time. The announcement of the winner could come as early as 9 a.m. Wednesday.

President Obama is likely to be re-elected given his lead over Romney by a razor-thin margin in all areas ranging from national popularity to expected votes from the Electoral College, according to a poll Monday conducted by NBC News and The Wall Street Journal, America’s top daily in circulation. In the survey, Obama led Romney by one point, 48 percent to 47 percent in the survey. The Washington Post said Obama could win 270 of the 538 Electoral College votes if he gains an advantage of 27 votes.

In parallel with their presidential election, Americans will select one-third of the seats in the Senate (33 seats) and the House of Representatives (435). The Washington Post said the Democrats are likely to control the president and the Senate, and the Republicans the House of Representatives.
