`Apple-Samsung verdict to have little effect on both sides`

Apple`s court victory over Samsung Electronics in California will have little impact on both companies, according to Fortune magazine and MarketWatch Bloomberg

With Apple`s successful lawsuit praised as a "victory of innovation," the American tech giant has thwarted smartphone makers including Samsung that use Google`s operating system without huge practical benefits, they said.

Gene Munster, an analyst covering Apple for investment bank Piper Jaffray, said, "We do not believe Samsung will see any meaningful interruption. We believe that Samsung is likely to make software modifications to devices to work around the patented software features in question."

Oppenheimer analyst Ittai Kidron said the verdict was an important victory for Apple but the war is not over yet and the final outcome is unforeseeable.

A Nomura Securities report obtained by MarketWatch said that even if Samsung lost the lawsuit and must pay royalties to Apple, this will affect just 30 million devices in the U.S., or 15 percent of Samsung`s global exports.

In a contribution to the Wall Street Journal, Forbes Publisher Rich Karlgaard said the reason Apple is in a patent war with Samsung is because of the deep-rooted sense of rivalry of the late Apple founder Steve Jobs. Apple is not directly suing Google and instead targeting Samsung because Apple perhaps judged it more profitable to sue a large foreign company than a Silicon Valley neighbor, he added.

Though Samsung lost the case, its credit default swap premium, a measure of bankruptcy, declined. According to financial investment sources, the CDS premium of Samsung was 0.696 percent Monday, down from 0.70 percent the previous day and the lowest figure since 0.705 percent last year on June 23.

The CDS premium is a key risk index in the international financial market. The higher the figure, the higher risk of bankruptcy for a company or country that issued it.

Kim Ki-myeong, a researcher at Korea Investment and Securities, said, "This is a reflection of analyses saying the Apple lawsuit will not have a huge impact on Samsung Electronics` fundamentals. Moody`s upgrade of Korea`s sovereign credit rating also had an impact."
