Sino-NK project begins

North Korea and China hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hwanggumpyong development project at the Yalu River Wednesday. This came six months after the North’s joint investment committee and China’s national commerce ministry exchanged a memorandum of understanding on joint development of the Hwanggumpyong-Rason Joint Special District Project in Beijing in December last year. Attending the ceremony were Jang Song Taek, vice chairman of the North`s powerful National Defense Commission and head of the ruling Workers` Party’s administrative division, the joint investment committee`s chairman Ri Su Yong, and Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming.
