Twenty-three people including entertainers and the head of an English-language institute have been caught for routine use of narcotics, police said Sunday.

The Goyang branch of the Uijeongbu District Public Prosecutors’ Office had 11 of them arrested, including the Korean-American director of an English academy, and booked 12 others, including a singer and actor, without detention on the charge of habitual use of narcotics.

Prosecutors seized two grams of narcotics and 124 grams of marijuana from them.

The 24-year-old singer allegedly bought narcotics and pot from an English tutor, who was booked without physical detention, and used them on several occasions at his home in Seoul’s southern Seocho district. He bought marijuana from the tutor and used joints on 18 occasions at home from December last year to late April this year.

All of those caught were people in their 20s, Korean Americans or those who studied in the U.S. They got the narcotics from the tutor, who was deported from the U.S. for committing a similar offense.
