Michelle Wie is back.

The prodigy recovered her nickname “golf genius” yesterday in the second round of the LPGA Tour`s qualifying tournament, or "Q-school," at Daytona Beach, Florida. She had earned the moniker “withdrawal girl” for withdrawing several times from tournaments due to a wrist injury.

After shooting three under Thursday, Wie shot a seven-under-65 to tie Shiho Oyama of Japan for the lead at a 10-under-134. This was the first time for Wie to lead in the second round of a tournament since she did so in July 2006 at the Evian Masters.

After hitting only four drivers on the narrow Legends course, Wie showed off her long-shots. She also did well on the green, a spot where she has frequently faltered. Wie had just 24 putts on the day.

Yang Hee-young, who shared third place in the first round, shot a one-under-71 on the Legends course and tied for fourth with a six-under 138. Ahn Seon-ju shot the first day six-over-par but got to 66th (two-over-146) by reducing four strokes. A top 70 finish through the fourth round could get Ahn to the fifth and final round.

At the PGA Tour qualifying tournament in La Quinta, California yesterday, Yang Yong-eun tied for 23rd at seven-under-137 after reducing four strokes by hitting seven birdies despite three bogeys.

After tying for 10th Thursday, Oh Tae-geun fell to 50th at five-under-139. Lee Won-jun tied for 102nd at two-under-142 and Bae Sang-moon and Hong Soon-sang shared 139th at one-over-145.
